What Microsoft is retiring
Microsoft says the standalone Whiteboard apps for Windows, iOS and Android retire on October 16, 2026. After that date, installed standalone apps show a retirement experience instead of opening the Whiteboard gallery or board content.
For work and school accounts, Whiteboard on the web, Whiteboard in Teams, and supported OneDrive-backed Whiteboard experiences remain available. This page compares workflows; it does not suggest that the entire Microsoft Whiteboard service is ending.

When InfinitiCanvas is the better fit
Choose InfinitiCanvas
You teach from one Windows computer, value smooth pen input, want local files, and do not need students to edit the same board live.
Stay with Microsoft
You need real-time collaboration, Teams meeting integration, shared OneDrive boards, browser access, or a cross-device Microsoft 365 workflow.
What the teaching workflow replaces
InfinitiCanvas covers the solo-instructor parts of a Whiteboard lesson: handwriting, panning and zooming, a ruler with pen snapping, screenshots you can annotate, multiple lesson pages, automatic local saving, and PNG export.
It does not currently replace live multi-user collaboration, Microsoft 365 identity, Teams tabs, shared cloud boards, or cross-platform access. That distinction is intentional.
A practical transition
- Before October 16, review any Microsoft boards you may need later and follow Microsoft's supported access or export guidance.
- Install the InfinitiCanvas trial on the Windows computer and pen hardware you actually teach with.
- Recreate one representative lesson using pages for warm-up, examples, practice and homework.
- Test screen sharing in your normal meeting tool and export a PNG for the student afterwards.
- Buy only if the local, solo-teacher workflow fits; the complete trial runs for 14 days.
