Draw it roughly. Get a clean shape.

Turn on shape recognition and InfinitiCanvas tidies the shapes teachers draw most — triangles, squares, rectangles, circles and ovals — the moment you lift the pen. Everything else stays exactly as you wrote it.

How to use it

  1. Press M to open the More tools toolbar and switch on Shape recognition.
  2. Draw a closed shape in one stroke with the pen.
  3. Lift the pen. A recognised shape is replaced by a clean version with sharp corners or a smooth curve, in the same colour and thickness.
  4. Switch the toggle off when you want everything freehand again.

Lines, arrows, pentagons, stars and hearts are deliberately not converted. Teachers asked for a small, predictable set so that handwriting, arrows and labels are never “corrected” into something they did not mean. For straight lines, use the line tool (L) or the virtual ruler.

Why it suits teaching

In geometry, a lopsided triangle invites the wrong conclusion. In physics and chemistry, clean boxes and circles make a diagram readable through a compressed video call. Shape recognition lets you keep drawing at lesson speed and still end up with a diagram worth exporting for students' notes.

After a shape is recognised it behaves like any other ink: select it with the lasso to move, resize, rotate or recolour it.

How it works under the hood

InfinitiCanvas simplifies your stroke with the Ramer–Douglas–Peucker algorithm to find the fewest corners that describe it, with a tolerance that scales to the size of the drawing. Three corners means a triangle, four a square or rectangle, and smooth closed curves become circles or ovals. Recognised polygons are rendered with true sharp corners rather than smoothed curves.

Common questions

Does shape recognition change my handwriting?

No. Only closed strokes that match one of the five supported shapes are converted. Letters, numbers, arrows and open lines are left alone.

Can I turn shape recognition off?

Yes. It is a toggle on the More tools toolbar (press M).
